Dar Tucker scored 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Jordan beat Senegal 79 – 77 to capture the first World Cup win in the country’s history.
“For some people, it wouldn’t mean a lot. But for our country, it means a lot. Especially for our players. They had to come a long way to come to this point. It didn’t happen overnight. It took a lot of sweat, effort and time on their part. It was exciting for them,” Jordan coach Joseph Anthony Stiebing said in the post-game presser.
“We got beaten by 55 points by Canada. That would demoralize any team. But they showed the grit and spirit come back and get this win.”
“This win means a lot for Jordan. And not just in regards with basketball,” Jordan guard Ahmad Al-Hamarsheh added.
Senegal finished the tournament at the third place of the classification round’s Group P with a 1- 4 record. Senegal remained winless at 0 – 5.
Youssoupha Ndoye posted a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds for Senegal while Mouhammad Faye added 17 points. Mousa Alawadi contributed 18 points to Jordan’s victory.
