DONGGUAN – Facundo Campazzo has been one of the leading forces pushing Argentina thorough the FIBA World Cup, and he put on a historic performance against Serbia in quarterfinals, being the first Argentinian to registered 10+ points and 10+ assists in a FIBA World Cup game.
The 28-year-old also received high praise from Serbia coach Sasha Djordjevic. However, Campazzo stays humble when asked if he could be the heir of Manu Ginobili and lead a new Argentinian ‘Golden generation’:
“I’m gonna try. I respect Sasha Djordjevic a lot; he is a big coach; I almost played for him… We don’t know yet. We are a very young team; we love to compete as the coach [Sergio Hernandez] said. We want to keep competing. I don’t know where the path ends, but we are enjoying the process”, he said at the press conference after the big win of Argentina.
He was filled with joy as were his teammates, but they still have two more games to play: “I feel absolute happiness. We gave everything. We played a great game as a group. We played a solid game. You have to recognize the importance, enjoy a triumph of such magnitude. But also continue. Go for more. We are not satisfied,”, he said.
And on top of them, his English are getting better and better, since Campazzo is notorious for not being confident enough to not speak in Spanish. On the other hand, however, he is fearless on the court.
