Team USA and Serbia were considered the big favorites to face each other in the World Cup Final and fight for the gold medal. However, their elimination in the quarterfinals by France and Argentina respectively, brought them against each other in the classification games for positions 5 to 8.

Serbia beat Team USA and will face the Czech Republic in the game for the fifth place. USA will play Poland for positions 7 to 8.
