The spirit of fair play must be kept even after the fiercest of games and CSKA Moscow‘s president Andrey Vatutin proved it with a congratulatory letter to newly crowned Euroleague champion Olympiacos. The Reds beat the Russians in the Euroleague Final, but Vatutin’s reaction – at least officially – was the following text, as you can read in the official Olympiacos BC website.
“Dear friends, we congratulate you on winning the Euroleague title after a dramatic final. You team has shown great progress during the season and deserved victory. It was an honor to play this decisive game against such honest opponents and great friends. Please accept one more time our warmest congratulations”!
Among the organizations that congratulated through letters Olympiacos were NBA teams Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers, something that also did two former coaches of the team, Panagiotis Giannakis and Pini Gershon.
