Real Madrid got the Champions League title on Saturday night and Maccabi Tel Aviv‘s twitter account reacted with the following tweet: “Just a reminder: This is the only European cup Real Madrid have won this year… #YallaMaccabi”. And that’s how the “twitter wars” started.

Nikola Mirotic twitted back that Real Madrid is still the king of Europe with 8 cups, MVP Tyrese Rice reacted asking him in how many of those titles he contributed and the situation almost got out of hand. Rice quickly apologized and on Sunday noon Maccabi Tel Aviv erased the tweet, apologized officially to Real Madrid and stated that the tweet was a mistake made by one of their employees who intended to use his personal account, but the text ended up in the official account of the club.

Eurohoops opinion is simple: You have to respect your opponent specially if you are the winner, still the tweet which started the whole fuss wasn’t that offensive. However as an entity Maccabi Tel Aviv should have been more careful, specially after this incident.
