The 60th season of Israeli league will end tonight, as Euroleague champion Maccabi Tel Aviv hosts defending local champion Maccabi Haifa. The Yellows won the first game 81-77, so they can regain the title even if they lose by three points.
It’s not going to be just a title for David Blatt and co – but a historic one. Maccabi Tel Aviv is on the verge of making history: The next title will be number 100 in their history. By now they have 50 Israeli championships, 41 state cups, six European trophies, one Adriatic league and one Intercontinental cup.
None other club in Europe – and probably in the whole world – is even close to these numbers. Real Madrid, just like in the last Euroleague season, is proud to be second to Maccabi with 76 titles.
Most titles for European clubs:
Maccabi Tel Aviv 99
Real Madrid 76
Benfica Lisbon 74
CSKA Moscow 62
Panathinaikos 56
FC Barcelona 52
