For the second straight season Unics Kazan is expected to have the coach of the Greek national team on its bench, but it will be a completely different person. After Andrea Trinkieri who left for Brose Baskets, Unics is near a deal with coach Fotis Katsikaris.
Katsikaris was recently hired from the Greek national team, however his contract allow him to work for a club and he is ready to sign with Unics for the next two seasons. However there’s one last issue holding back the final deal which may be resolved soon. Unics has to play in Euroleague’s qualifying round which starts on the 22nd of September, while FIBA World Cup ends on the 14th of the same month.
At this point is up to Unics to decide if they can afford to have a coach with such a tight schedule and it seems that the Russian club is ready to complete the deal.
