Katsikaris remains at Bilbao

He was put in charge of a team that was in danger of relegation and he led it to the Spanish league finals and the Euroleague play offs. Fotis Katsikaris has done an amazing job in Bilbao and that’s why Real Madrid and Unicaja Malaga tried to flirt with him. The Greek coach, though, will remain in the bench of Bilbao, not only because he has a contract until 2014, but also because he has developed a special bond with the team.

He has already started his plans for next season’s roster and he would like to have in Bilbao one more Greek player. As it was rumored for some time now, Katsikaris would love to have Nikos Zisis in his roster again – with whom they have collaborated in the past from 2003 to 2005 in AEK Athens – specially after the possible transfer of Aaron Jackson to CSKA Moscow. Until now this is just a thought, negotiations haven’t even started, since the Greek guard wants to keep his options open and wants to know if Olympiacos is still interested in him.
