On the day of the draw of the upcoming season of the Greek league, Panionios lost the right to register to the competition. As the committee of professional sports decided Panionios is the only club which doesn’t get the needed license.
It was well known that Panionios had many issues to solve during the summer, but nothing happened. The owner, Ilias Lianos, had announced since last February that he was going to leave the team, however he appeared today in the committee and asked ten more days in order to present the needed documents. The committee decided not to extend the deadline and according to Greek bylaws, Panionios has to play in an amateur category.
It’s still undecided which club will replace Panionios in the league and the draw will proceed with an unknown “Team A” in the schedule.
