Maccabi Tel Aviv loosing in the winner Israeli league is big news! A loss by 30 points, especially by the arch rival Hapoel Jerusalem is something really rare and a big issue for discuss at the country.
At the 5th gameday of the league, Hapoel destroyed Maccabi 93-63 after an emphatic 4th period by the hosts. We are talking here for something more than a win in a derby of classic rivals, since 2 ex – Maccabi’s players and basically kids who grown up with the shirt of the Yellows “killed” their former team!
Yotam Halperin and Lior Eliyahu destroyed their ex – team and they combined together for 29 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and 4 steals! The American Donta Smith who had appeared to be a transfer target of Maccabi the previous summer also did huge damage to the European and Israeli champs with 24 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks!
What do you think? Is Hapoel capable to win the league? It’s pretty early in the season but the 93-63 win at Sunday’s derby seems like the first important signal, which shows that Jerusalem’s squad is not kidding at all.
