The almost eventful ending of the final had as a cause Maciulis targeting Spanoulis and Olympiacos’s leader talking about Rudy Fernendez. Rudy talked to Spanoulis and gave him the ball after the last basket of the game. Spanoulis hit him with the ball on his head and then had a verbal fight with Maciulis who made an improper gesture towards him.
Jonas Maciulis said: “We proved that we are something. Because Spanoulis told me that I’m nothing. It was in the heat of the moment. We’ve faced each other many times playing as opponents, whenever he loses he does the same thing! He talks trash. We proved we are somebody. We defeated the best so we are the best!”
On his part Spanoulis mentioned: “Rudy was being ironic and I lost my temper. He’s a very good player but he talks a lot.”
