Following the recent coronavirus outbreak, the Greek Ministry of Health announced that for the upcoming two weeks all sports events will take place behind closed doors for fans, starting off Monday.
The measure will affect all European competitions (Basketball Champions League, EuroCup, EuroLeague), apart from the Greek League and Tuesday’s game between Peristeri and Hapoel Jerusalem will have to be played without fans.
At the same time, Olympiacos hosts Real Madrid on March 20, while Panathinaikos does not have any homecourt games within the next two weeks. The measure will be re-examined before the end of the deadline, so a further course of action might be taken.
It has to be noted that Promitheas Patras’ home game against Rethimnon has been postponed and was not played this weekend, because the region around the city of Patras is considered a high-risk area. It remains to be seen how this measure will affect Promitheas during the EuroCup quarterfinals.
So far there are 73 coronavirus cases registered in Greece and no deaths.
