Giannis Bourousis asked to be released and Peristeri granted his wish to end his stint with the Greek club, as announced Thursday.
Bourousis, 37, joined Peristeri about three months ago but has been slowed down by injuries, including a recent nose injury, ultimately resulting in his request. He put up 8.8 points per game debuting in the Basketball Champions League and 7.4 points per match in Greece’s Basket League.
Experienced big Michalis Tsairelis has agreed to come in as a replacement, as officially confirmed by Peristeri. The 33-year-old Greek played under current Peristeri boss Sotiris Manolopoulos last season at Ifaistos. He left Iraklis to reunite with the 50-year-old Greek head coach.
Peristeri after being eliminated from the BCL has shifted focus to domestic competitions, namely the Basket League and the Greek Cup.
