Olympiacos and Panathinaikos recorded respective wins in Greece’s Basket League Regular Season Round 7 Sunday.
Racing from the 39-point eruption in the first quarter, the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas rocked Promitheas, 100-72. Shaquielle McKissic connected 8/9 from the field setting his season-best at 22 points. Sasha Vezenkov shared the game-high 22 points. Isaiah Canaan and Tarik Black followed with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Alec Peters (foot) was sidelined.
Extending the perfect start, the Reds improved to 7-0 and forced the home side down to 2-3. With Turk Telekom already in Patras, head coach Erdem Can had the opportunity to scout the next opponent. His side is set to collide with Promitheas in 7DAYS EuroCup Round 6 action Tuesday.
Easy task for Panathinaikos in rolling PAOK mateco, 87-63, in the earlier one-sided affair. Missing Marius Grigonis (back), the Greens jumped to 5-1. Paving the way was Dwayne Bacon scoring 21 points with 9/14 field goals. “We got all the pieces we need. I think I was the last missing piece. Me being here, I am comfortable. It took me a while, but I am comfortable now and I just want to keep moving forward,” the Florida State product told Greek public broadcaster ERT following his Greek league debut.
Following the upcoming Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 11, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos will meet each other in the first league derby of the 2022-23 season following Monday. “It’s a big game. Everybody knows what’s at stake. I don’t think we are nervous,” noted Olympiacos guard McKissic in a brief preview shared with ERT.
