Olympiacos extended its Greek League dominance to a 19-0 record after beating Lavrio on the road (103-75). However, the news came from the presence of Sacramento Kings Vice President of Player Personnel Phil Jabour (photo) in the arena.
Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair was also expected in Athens per reports, however, he was not seen in the gym.
This may not be a surprise, since the Kings’ delegation per Eurohoops sources arrived in Athens on Saturday and they were also not seen in the Greek derby of Panathinaikos against Olympiacos on Sunday.
Vezenkov was once more the top scorer of Olympiacos with 18 points in less than 20 minutes of action, having also seven rebounds and four assists. He made 8/9 two-pointers but missed three attempts for threes. For the record, Olympiacos was not coached by Giorgos Bartzokas who was ill and Shaquielle McKissic was rested and not on the active list.
This is the second time this season that a member of the Kings travels to Greece to check out Vezenkov’s game up close. In February, Sacramento assistant coach Jay Triano watched the 27-year-old star winning MVP in the Greek Cup after averaging 19.0 points 7.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.
Vezenkov signed a multiyear contract extension with Olympiacos in January. The deal includes an increase in both the player’s salary and the sum of his NBA buyout.
In his latest EuroLeague game, Vezenkov scored 25 points and hit the game-winner in a road win of Olympiacos over Zalgiris Kaunas. So far in the 2022-23 EuroLeague, he’s posting competition-high 18.2 points and 7.3 rebounds. He’s considered the favorite to win MVP.
