Dwayne Bacon scored eight out of his 15 points in the last five minutes while also dishing out six assists as Panathinaikos Athens defeated Kolossos Rhodes 85 – 76 at home to go up 1-0 in the Greek League best-of-three quarterfinal series.
Panathinaikos led by 15 points, 68 – 53, near the end of the third period but Kolossos approached 72 – 67 with five minutes to play. Bacon scored eight unanswered points to put his team ahead 80 – 67, giving the Greens the push they needed to close the game.
George Papagiannis delivered 16 points and nine rebounds for Panathinaikos while Derrick Williams scored 15 and Paris Lee dropped 13 points. Christopher Coffey (18 points, eight rebounds) and Charis Yiannopoulos (18 points) were Kolossos’ leading scorers.
Game 2 takes place in Rhodes Wednesday (26/4).
