At the conclusion of domestic and continental campaigns, both AEK and Promitheas decided to begin necessary adjustments by parting ways with respective head coaches.
Ilias Kantzouris was released by the team based in Athens on Thursday. The Greek tactician was handed over the reins in preparations for the 2022-23 season. Responsible for the seventh straight team appearance in the Basketball Champions League, his efforts led to a berth in the Playoffs up to falling short in the best-of-three series versus Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem.
Giannis Christopoulos was appointed as the successor of Makis Giatras last December. Competing in the 7DAYS EuroCup, the Patras outfit ranked fourth in Group B of the Regular Season and knocked out JL Bourg before being eliminated by Prometey in the Quarterfinals.
Both AEK and Promitheas went on to suffer a Quarterfinals exit in the Playoffs of Greece’s Basket League at the hands of Peristeri bwin and PAOK mateco, respectively.
