Making it 13 wins in a row across all competitions, Olympiacos pulled away in the second half to eliminate the challenge of Lavrio Megabolt.
Prevailing, 84-63, in the Peace and Friendship Stadium opened the Round 20 schedule of Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League Regular Season on Saturday afternoon.
Alec Peters produced a game-high 20 points for the reigning league and cup champions in Greece. Captain Kostas Papanikolaou dropped 17 of his 19 points after the break, including 4/4 from beyond the arc, pushing his side to a comfortable lead.
Beating the buzzer at the end of the first half, Isaiah Canaan attached a two-point lead to a poor overall performance for the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas. The Murray State product added two more points in the second half en route to a 13-point showing.
Nursing injuries, Thomas Walkup, Nigel Williams-Goss, Giannoulis Larentzakis, and Nikola Milutinov were sidelined along with Ignas Brazdeikis and Luke Sikma, both unregistered in the domestic league.
For the visitors, experienced guard Marcus Thornton recorded a team-high 13 points in SEF.
