Despite yesterday being April Fools’ Day, it’s indeed true: Kevin Porter Jr. officially became a new player of PAOK, signing a one-month contract with the option of extending it until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Landing in Thessaloniki, he spoke about his new chapter, starting from the country he chose. “Greece has always been one of the countries on my list that I wanted to visit. People love basketball. I am grateful to be a part of this team and to have this opportunity”, he first commented.
Talking about the black-and-white team, he touched on his new teammates. “I’m learning and there are definitely a lot of things I still have to learn about my new team. What I have to tell you is that when I received the phone call from my agents about the possibility of coming to play in Greece, I heard only good things and I’m excited to be here”, he said while wearing nails with PAOK colors.
PAOK, one of the biggest multisport clubs in Greece, is currently 8th in the 12-team Greek league and they are expected to be part of the playoffs, where they may end playing against EuroLeague powerhouses Panathinaikos and Olympiacos.
Asked about his main motivation, Porter Jr. kept things clear. “I want to come back on the court, I have loved basketball since I was three years old. It’s a beautiful game, a beautiful sport. Having this opportunity is beautiful already. It’s gonna be a good one”, the 23-year-old guard also added.
Stating to have been “always ready” and to “have trained all this time”, Kevin Porter Jr. is ready for his new chapter by wearing PAOK’s number 77. After averaging 19.2 points per game in the 2022-23 season, he was banned from the Houston Rockets at the beginning of October 2023 after being accused of beating up his former girlfriend.
