Panathinaikos Athens owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos was sanctioned with an 8-month ban from entering any Greek League games and a fine of 35,000 euros for “actions and statements that constitute defamation of the sport and took place before, during or after a league game,” the Greek Sports Judge announced.
Furthermore, Panathinaikos was fined 50,000 euros for the same reasons as above. The game in which Giannakopoulos’ actions took place was Game 5 of the Greek League Finals where Panathinaikos beat Olympiacos Piraeus to win the championship.
Giannakopoulos, who was present in the arena despite having received a 3-month ban (which is under appeal), was seen addressing the referees multiple times during the game and shouting at them while they were on their way to their locker rooms after the final buzzer.
