Far from a preseason setup, Olympiacos prevailed in a mostly heated matchup opposite Panathinaikos Aktor on Sunday.
A win, 86-85, in the latest edition of the derby of the eternal enemies in Greece, clinched the Stoiximan Super Cup. A third Super Cup in a row for the Reds with Rhodes hosting the entire streak.
Sasha Vezenkov was named Super Cup Final Four MVP after leading his side to the first domestic title of the 2024-25 campaign with 20 points, including a three-point dagger for a nine-point lead with 34 seconds on the clock. An ensuing reaction by Panathinaikos reduced the deficit but time ran out with Kendrick Nunn hitting a three.
Tyler Dorsey chipped in 19 points behind 5/7 field goals. Filip Petrusev combined 18 points with eight rebounds. Keenan Evans, Moustapha Fall, Shaquielle McKissic, and Nikola Milutinov were unavailable for head coach Giorgos Bartzokas. Naz Mitrou-Long and Giannoulis Larentzakis suited up but did not play.
On the losing end, Kostas Sloukas tallied 18 points with 7/9 field goals until fouling out with just over one minute left in the Final. Behind four triples, Marius Grigonis went for a team-high 19 points. Nunn finished with 15 points. Kostas Antetokounmpo, Lorenzo Brown, and Cedi Osman were out.
With 5:59 remaining in the first quarter, the game between the Greek participants in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague was interrupted for approximately 30 minutes to repair the rim.
Olympiacos Moses Wright dunked the ball and crooked the rim.
