Omer Yurtseven posts a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double for Panathinaikos

The reigning champions of Greece’s Stoiximan GBL, Panathinaikos Aktor started the 2024-25 campaign with an 80-66 victory versus Karditsa Iaponiki on Sunday.

After falling to archrival Olympiacos in the championship game of the Stoiximan Super Cup, the Greens bounced back with a win against ALBA Berlin in Round 1 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season on Thursday. From the capital of Germany to Karditsa drew a 1-0 start in the GBL Regular Season.

Turkish center Omer Yurtseven put in a 15-point, 13-point double-double but committed five out of 14 turnovers for the team coached by Ergin Ataman.

Panagiotis Kalaitzakis produced a game-high 16 points behind 6/8 field goals, including three triples. Jerian Grant and Mathias Lessort chipped in ten points each and Konstantinos Mitoglou combined eight points with nine rebounds.

Kostas Antetokounmpo (right thumb), Marius Grigonis (Achilles), and Ioannis Papapetrou (right foot) were sidelined along with unregistered Cedi Osman.

Fellow EuroLeague participant from Greece, Olympiacos will visit Lavrio DHI tomorrow, Monday, wrapping up the opening round of the GBL.

From domestic action to Europe’s premier club continental competition. In Round 2 of the EuroLeague Regular Season, Ataman’s side will welcome FC Bayern Munich in OAKA Altion on Thursday and Olympiacos will be in the Peace and Friendship Stadium against Zalgiris on Friday.
