Panathinaikos and Olympiacos on a collision course in Greek Cup

The Greek Cup Final 8 draw was held on Monday.

Teams were seeded according to their ranking at the end of the first half of the 2024-25 Stoiximan GBL Regular Season, thus placing Panathinaikos Aktor, Olympiacos, PAOK mateco, and Promitheas Vikos Cola first through fourth on the bracket.

Qualified as the winner of the UNICEF Trophy, namely the earlier rounds of the Greek Cup contested between teams in lower divisions, NE Megaridas was drawn in the fifth seed, sending AEK Betsson, Karditsa Iaponiki, and Peristeri Domino’s sixth through eighth.

As determined by their seeding, first and second, the Greens and the Reds will meet each other in the Final, if they survive the Quarterfinals and Semifinals. The Final 8 will take place in Iraklio.

Besides the Cup, organized annually by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the rivalry extends into the GBL and a meeting in OAKA Altion later Monday to complete Round 15 of the Regular Season.

Ergin Ataman’s side leads the Greek League with a 14-0 W-L tally, including a win by a margin of seven points in the Peace and Friendship Stadium, SEF, over Olympiacos in the first round of the Regular Season. The team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas follows with a 13-1 record.
