The final score was 54-72 for Peiraus’ team who improved its record to 5-1. Kolossos suffered its third loss of the season and slipped to 3-3.
Since early on in the game and the tip-off, the ‘reds’ wanted to show their intentions as they went up by nine points by the end of the first quarter (17-26). Before half-time Olympiacos increased its lead to double-digits.
In the second half, however, Rhodes’ team cut the lead to just three points (47-50) with an 8-2 run but Sfairopoulos’ team responded in the late third quarter and early fourth with Giorgos Printezis assisting, scoring and Janis Strelnieks following to increase its lead to double digits (54-65). Finally, in the last five minutes of the game, the visitors controlled the tempo of the game until the final buzzer.
Strelnieks finished the game with 16 points and 5 assists while Thompson added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Τhe Reds were missing Vasilis Spanoulis, Dimitris Agravanis and Nikola Milutinov.
Over the weekend, Panathinaikos easily defeated Kimi on the road behind Chris Singleton’s 35 points, while AEK Athens and Aris Thessaloniki enjoyed home wins over Panionios and Larissas Faros respectively. Finally, PAOK, Promitheas, and Lavrio showed quality away from home and improved their record.
