A couple of hours after the decision of the judge about the Greek Cup’s quarterfinal between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, Dimitris Giannkopoulos, the Greens’ owner made a statement on the matter, saying among others that Panathinaikos is going to examine the possibility of playing in the Adriatic League.
The sports judge of ESAKE decided that the win in the quarterfinal game between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, despite what happened on the court, belongs to the Reds and Dimitris Giannakopoulos attacked in his statement the Greek sports minister, the sports judge, members of the government and of course Olympiacos. He accused not only the basketball club of the Reds but also the football section.
He said also: “Panathinaikos is the best Greek club and I declare that in the summer we will examine our position and role in the Greek league-“parody” of Mr. Chalvatzakis (ed.note: president of the league) and his new friends. I don’t exclude the possibility to make exploratory contacts with the Adriatic League. If we find out that they respect Panathinaikos, we will examine the possibility of taking part in this league”.
Finally, Dimitris Giannakopoulos ended his statement by saying “Batista’s dunk (ed. note: the buzzer beater against Olympiacos in the cut game) ghosted Olympiacos. They know also that on the court we will dunk on them forever”.
UPDATE: Panathinaikos had the right to appeal the case again until the 13th of January and finally did it. The highest sports council will not decide again for the case and the verdict will be the final.
