The GM of Greek League club Koroivos Amaliadas canceled American players Marcus Posley’s and Jahil Carson’s airplane tickets back to the USA.
Posley and Carson were ready to board a plane back home from Athens when they received an SMS saying: “The GM gave us strict orders to tell you that he canceled the tickets. He says goodbye, wishing to both of you that life gives you back everything you did to Koroivos,” per Greek website SDNA.
Koroivos was relegated to the Greek Second Division following what was widely considered to be an unexpected and rather surprising loss to Trikala at home in the last round of the regular season. Trikala had been mathematically relegated weeks ago and the result vs. Koroivos wouldn’t change anything regarding their position in the standings.
Near the end of the game, Carson collapsed onto the floor and lost his consciousness for about three minutes.
After the match, Koroivos head coach Dinos Kalabakos said that “for 40 minutes everything in the game was abnormal” while the club released an announcement, mentioning that “Everyone knew – unfortunately we did post hoc – that a weird game has been taking place against us, but we aren’t the ones who will look into it.”
UPDATE: Marcus Posley had the following reaction on twitter about the whole incident.
