Defending champion Panathinaikos and PAOK Thessaloniki became the first two teams to advance in the Greek League semifinals after sweeping Kolossos Rhodes and AEK Athens respectively.
Panathinaikos faced no difficulties on the road vs. Kolossos, winning 87- 69 to make the 2-0 in the best-of-three quarterfinal series. Chris Singleton had 14 points plus five rebounds while Nikos Pappas and Mike James added 11 points apiece.
Keith Wright (14 points, eight rebounds) was the only Kolossos player in double figures.
In Athens, PAOK delivered the upset by beating reigning Basketball Champions League champion AEK 93 – 88 to qualify in the next stage. Vangelis Margaritis scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, Phil Goss had 13 points and Darnell Jackson 12 plus seven boards for the winning squad.
Mike Green had 19 points and Delroy James 13 in the team’s last game of the season.
