Nick Calathes capped a brilliant season with an MVP award.

Panathinaikos guard Nick Calathes was named MVP of the Greek Basketball League for the 2017-2018 season. He also won the 2017-2018  “Best Defender” honor.

Calathes averaged 9.5 points, 7.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 20 minutes per game in the regular season, plus 12.4 points, 5.9 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 2 steals over 26 minutes per game in the playoffs, as Panathinaikos won the Greek League title for the second year in a row.

Calathes was nearly unanimously chosen by his peers as MVP since he gathered 25 out of the 28 votes (89,29%) of players and team captains of the Greek League for the award. The Greek playmaker was also voted by 66.6% of media representatives and received 66.8% of the fans’ votes.

When it came to the “Best Defender” voting, Calathes was selected by 28.5% of the team captains and head coaches, 15.4% of media representatives and 32.9 of fans.

The announcement was made just before the draw of next season’s Greek league. Panathinaikos coach Xavi Pascual won the best coach award for the second straight year and also the best five of last season were honored.

As for the draw, Panathinaikos will face Olympiacos on the 6th round of the Greek league at OAKA on the 17th of November, eight days after their game on the same gym for the EuroLeague.
