Lithuanian guard Vaidas Kariniauskas made his season debut with Greek League club Kymis despite being allegedly involved in a betting scandal in his home country.
A few days ago, Lithuanian Federation’s Vaidotas Zajarsksas had said that they won’t send a letter of clearance for Kariniauskas to be eligible to play with his new team. However, Kariniauskas participated in the 91 – 86 Kymis win over Kolossos Rhodes. He notched 14 points and four assists in 20 minutes.
Kariniauskas had been suspected of involvement in a betting scandal after a friend of his bet 2,000 on the player performing poorly in a Basketball Champions League between Lietkabelis (Kariniauskas’ former team) and Dijon. The Lithuanian player had 1/8 shots in that match.
