With four players figures out of the starting five finishing with double figures, Olympiacos routed bottom-placed Rethymno 98 – 52 on the road in the game that concluded Round 21 in the Greek League.
Zach LeDay finished with a Greek League season-high 22 points and seven rebounds. Nigel Williams-Goss 14 points plus eight assists and Nikola Milutinov 14 points plus seven rebounds. Vangelis Mantzaris had 11 points and seven assists.
Only Antony Hickey (15 points) scored in double digits for Rethymno (3-18).
Olympiacos improved its record to 19 – 2 and remains second in the standings since the six-point penalty for forfeiting the game vs. Panathinaikos hasn’t been made official in the classification table yet. David Blatt’s team is facing Darussafaka Tekfen next for Round 30 of the EuroLeague regular season. The “Reds” need a win plus a combination of results in the other matches to clinch a playoffs spot.
In the rest of the Greek League games this round, Panathinaikos suffered their first defeat this season in Greece, losing to Peristeri in a game that was held behind closed doors. Panathinaikos coach Rick Pitino joked on the matter in the post-game presser.
AEK defeated Aris but not before getting a scare with Jordan Theodore sustaining an adductor strain. The defending Basketball Champions League are already missing Jonas Maciulis (out for the season) ahead of Game 2 of the BCL quarterfinals against Brose Bamberg.
