Olympiacos officially announced the addition of American guard Will Cherry on a contract for the remainder of the season.
Cherry, 28, arrives at Olympiacos to provide a much-needed backcourt option for David Blatt. The “Reds” are without injured guards Vassilis Spanoulis (out for the season) and Janis Strelnieks (out indefinitely) while guard Briante Weber, the team’s most recent acquisition, will be parting ways with the club.
Blatt is familiar with Cherry since he coached him during the player’s brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first half of the 2014-2015 season. The former Montana guard played eight NBA games with Cleveland before getting waived.
Cherry then joined Zalgiris Kaunas with which he participated in 15 EuroLeague matches. He’s also played in EuroCup with Alba Berlin and Cedevita Zagreb.
Earlier in the day, coach David Blatt addressed the issue of a possible transfer, since Olympiacos parted ways with Briante Weber and Axel Toupane.
