Greek Second Division top-seeded Ionikos Nikaia set a new scoring record in the Greek leagues overall by beating bottom-placed Ethnikos Piraeus 197 – 116.
Ionikos, that is close to a promotion in the Greek First Division, had actually scored 103 (!) points at halftime. The first quarter ended 47 – 28 and the second 55 – 27 for the winning squad.
Vangelis Karampoulas scored 61 points with 10 triples for Ionikos while Fanis Vassilopoulos had a triple-double of 22 points, 23 assists, and 10 rebounds.
It has to be noted that this is the second time in three years that a game in the second division ends with such a score. Faros Keratsini had beaten Pagrati 164-103, with Karampoulas playing also for the winning side and scoring 25 points.
He was not the only connection between the two games. Vaggelis Tsapas, who was then president of Faros, is also the current president of Ionikos. It has also to be noted that Ethnikos veteran point guard Nikos Mihalos left the game at halftime and the rest of his team also threaten to leave, accusing Ionikos of lack of fair play.
