In what is expected to be the last game of his playing career, 36 years old point guard Phil Goss had 17 points as PAOK was defeated at home by Promitheas by 76-68 (0-2). It was not only the end of a troubled season for PAOK, that had faced financial woes but also can be the end of Goss’ career.
Goss who had played in the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel, Poland and most recently in Italy with Varese, Roma, Venezia, and Brindisi, in France with ASVEL and the last two seasons in Greece with PAOK is ready to exchange his jersey for the suit of a coach.
After all, during the last NBA Summer league, Goss acted as a player/coach in the roster of the Washington Wizards. As he said after the game: “It was a crazy season with lots of ups and downs. It was something that I will never forget in my life, not because I was not getting paid, but because in order to succeed not just in basketball, but also in life, you should never quit and you should be proud. PAOK is like family to me. I am not retiring yet, I don’t know if that was my last game. I have not decided yet. You know that I am in contact with the Washington Wizards and there’s a spot in their staff for me, but they have also said to me that I should play as long as I can. I have to speak with my family, I can’t be selfish on that”.
