Panathinaikos crushed Promitheas Patras 111 – 77 in Game 3 of the Greek League Finals to sweep the series and win the championship. It’s the 38th domestic championship title for the “Greens” and third in a row.
The winning side was extremely dominant from start to finish. Panathinaikos stormed into the game to close the first quarter with a 31 – 8 lead. By halftime, Rick Pitino’s squad was up 62 – 34, a lead from which there was no way back.
Six Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. George Papagiannis posted 16 points and nine rebounds, DeShaun Thomas 16 points and five boards while Matt Lojeski scored 13. Thanasis Antetokounmpo added 12 points, Keith Langford 10 while Nick Calathes flirted with the double-double by notching 12 points and nine assists. It was his only playoffs game without a double-double.
For Promitheas, Langston Hall had 12 points plus eight rebounds and Tony Meier 10 points. 15-year-old Lefteris Mantzoukas was in the starting five for the Patras side, becoming the youngest player to appear and score in a Greek League Finals game. He finished with six points in 29:32 minutes.
