Greek Basketball Federation president Giorgos Vassilakopoulos addressed the absence of Olympiacos from 2019-2020 Greek League and the fact that team doesn’t participate domestic competitions, save from a B’ squad compiled by youngsters, that plays in Second Division.

“If there’s no unity, the results are negative. No one wanted to have these phenomena. Team A or B, team 1 or 2. It’s great damage to not have the team of Olympiacos in the Greek League. For both the sport and the club. You can’t have a league without Olympiacos. It’s a mistake. We want it to be fixed, but it’s not depended from us.”

Olympiacos was relegated to the second division after forfeiting Game 1 of the playoffs against archrival Panathinaikos. The club decided for the senior team to participate only in EuroLeague in 2019-2020 and use an “Olympiacos B” in the second division and Greek cup matches.
