Facundo Campazzo returned to Real Madrid last summer after stints in the NBA and Crvena Zvezda and it was like he never left the Spanish capital.
Joining an already star-studded squad, he managed to stand out from the beginning and helped Real Madrid reach another Euroleague Final Four after dominating the league.
“Hopefully the curse ends this season, we’ll do everything we can for this curse to end in this Final Four”, Facundo Campazzo told Eurohoops, as Real Madrid looks to become the first team ever to win the title after finishing top of the table in the regular season.
“Obviously in a Final Four, it’s much more difficult to win, it’s just one game. Real Madrid did something remarkable last year by winning the title after not having the best season. But I believe wearing this jersey comes with great responsibility and also pressure, but we have players and a coaching staff with a winning mentality, which will help us to be ready for the Final Four”, he added.
Later on, he analyzed the style of play of Real Madrid’s opponent in the semi-finals of the Euroleague. “Olympiacos is a team that fights a lot, they are very physical. They have players who can hurt you offensively and defensively. They are now more experienced and that makes them even more dangerous. We are talking about one of the best defensive teams in the league, so we have to be well prepared and try to control the emotions of the game”, he explained.
Talking about the season he is having and responding to the question if he feels like the MVP of the Euroleague the Argentinian was clear, stating that “it’s not something he’s thinking about”. “I leave this to you guys the journalists to decide. I believe that when the team is playing well, every individual also is playing better. I’m having a good season and I feel good while playing because the whole team is playing at a very high level”, he commented.
The Argentinian point guard also highlighted, how special this season is and the tranquility it gives to him and his family knowing that they will be here [in Madrid] for many years to come. “Last season was a bit strange for me. First I was in the United States, then I went to Serbia and after that, I was in Argentina”, he said.
“After all, this season is also special for me because I can be at home together with my wife and my daughter knowing that we will be here for many more years. I believe that when someone feels at home and that they are at peace it reflects on the court while playing”, he concluded.
