Jason Thompson is debuting in EuroLeague and as an important member of the defending champions, Fenerbahce, no less. How does he feel about this challenge?
“I’m excited to be here”, Thompson told Eurohoops. “Fenerbahce contacted me and I have a younger brother, Ryan, who plays in Ulm (Germany) and he told me how great the experience of playing with the defending EuroLeague champions will be.”
On the demanding task of filling 2017 Final Four MVP Ekpe Udoh’s shoes, the American big guy said, “Ekpe played amazing here. The difference is that he played two years here and this is my first one. Big shoes to fill but I’m here to play my game offensively and defensively. Everything else should take care of itself.
Thompson, 31, will play under Zeljko Obradovic, the most celebrated coach in the history of European Basketball, with 9 EuroLeague titles and countless domestic trophies. “He’s a legend. A big-time winner. Hall Of Fame type of coach. All you can do as a player is absorb all the information like a sponge. And that’s what I’ve been doing in practices, preseason games etc.”
