David Blatt has already coached for two seasons in Europe after his return from the NBA and his years with the Cavs. However, this summer he joined Olympiacos and that puts him again on the head of a true EuroLeague contender.
Eurohoops played a game with him during the media day. We gave him names and he gave us for each name a comment, which could have been a word or even something more. You can watch here the first part of the interview. In the second part, he talked about his Olympiacos stars, Vassilis Spanoulis and Giorgos Printezis, the team owners, Aggelopoulos brothers, his son Tamir Blatt who is starting his fourth reason as a professional with Hapoel Jerusalem, the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo , Boston Celtics Kyrie Irving, Cavs’ JR Smith and his mistake in the recent NBA finals.
And for the first time since leaving the Cavs, coach Blatt speaks about LeBron James: “LeBron James is an iconic figure. He is one of the true, true greats of basketball all time. You cannot deny his place in the game now and forever. And you certainly have to appreciate what he was able to do in his career”.
And when he was asked about the perception that he had a bad relationship with the “King”, Blatt implies that things are not always what they seem to be: “I just don’t think that’s true. I don’t think we had a bad relationship. In today’s world and in today’s media there’s nothing more important than a narrative. But as you all can understand the narrative is not always correct. And we can move on from that…”
