Nigel Williams-Goss: We have to get better as a team and go out with new energy and focus

Olympiacos guard Nigel Williams-Goss pointed out the lack of rebounding as a significant aspect behind his team’s loss to archrival Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague regular season Round 6 game.

The American player emphasized on the Reds allowing Panathinaikos to renew too many possessions (20 offensive rebounds) and how that affected his team’s offense. “We need to see the film of the game to fully understand, but the rebounds and points from second chance slowed our offense. In my mind, it played a big part. We could have done a lot differently, I could have helped myself too. As I said, we have to look at the film and see how I can get better, we all have to do that as a team,” Williams-Goss told Eurohoops.

Williams-Goss explained how Olympiacos will prepare for the next big EuroLeague battle, the home game against 2017 champion and 2018 finalist Fenerbahce.

“We’ll see the film of the game, all the answers are there, we just have to dive into it. You really got to put the game behind you, good or bad. Each game is new, so we have to go out with new energy and a new focus for the next one.”

Last season, Williams-Goss got his first taste of big European rivalry games with Partizan Belgrade, as his former team fought vs. Crvena Zvezda throughout the season. Eurohoops asked him to make a comparison with the atmosphere of another European classic that he has now become acquainted with: The “derby of eternal rivals” between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.

“There are great rivalries in both cases. It’s hard to say, both fanbases are super intense for their clubs. It’s fun to play in an atmosphere like that and we want to be at the top. “
