The increase in viewers from broadcasting rights is impressive according to an announcement by the German league. The completion of the regular season of the championship brought in total viewers of approximately 2,26 billion fans, which is quite a high figure! The increase reaches 51% since in the same period of the 2013-14 season that figure was 1,5 billion fans!

The primary reason for the increase, as BEKO BBL announced, is the live broadcasts of championship games from “Telekom Basketball” through the webpage www.telekombasketball.de. The collaboration between the two parties resulted in viewers of approximately 830 million fans, while there was a smaller but still very satisfactory increase from the TV and radio rights (742 m. from 552 m., a 35% increase).

As is reasonable, the league’s people appeared very satisfied, with the league’s CEO Jan Pommer stating: “The results are very encouraging and if we take into account that the playoffs – which are still in progress – are fascinating then it is clear that we are at a very good level.”

From her part, the head of Telekom Basketball’s marketing department, Dr. Henning Stiegenroth, stated: “Popularity is increasing and we are on the right track. Now we have to increase our quality even more and keep on attracting attention.”
