In the new season the teams in the VTB League will once again be 16 in total, but there will be an important difference. Krasnye Krylia will give their place for the first time to a team from Georgia, VITA.
A few days ago Krasnye Krylia officially announced that they would not be competing in the VTB League next season after four consecutive participations. The team is facing financial problems and last year they finished in last place of the standings. The team from Samara informed that they would return when they expand the capacity of their arena that does not exceed the minimum limit (3.000 spectators) set by the organization.
Their place in the VTB League, that will most likely host 16 teams once again in the new season, is expected to be taken by VITA, the first team from Georgia to compete in this particular league. VITA won six consecutive domestic championships in the 90s, another in 2005 and this year they’ve gotten strong once again.
