Zalgiris Kaunas proved to be at least one step ahead of Lietuvos Rytas by winning at Vilnius 90-79 the first official game of the season between the two Lithuanian arch-rivals. The game was played for the domestic LKL league in which Zalgiris now has a 4-0 record and Lietuvos a 3-1. Marko Popovic (photo) with 20 points was the top scorer of the winners. So far, Prienai, formerly known as Rudupis, is also unbeaten with a 7-0 record.

It has to be noted that both Zalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas due to their heavy schedule in Euroleague and VTB League will only play 12 games each (away versus all the rivals in the championship and home and away against each other), while the other 10 teams competing in the league have a 20-game regular season, facing Zalgiris and Lietuvos at home and playing the rest of clubs home and away. The regular season standings will be made up by wins / losses percentage.
