Thursday was a cup’s day all over Europe with final eights being in full swing in Spain, Italy and Turkey. In Vitoria, the host of “Copa Del Rey” Caja Laboral got an impressive 88-64 win over Zaragoza and qualified to the semifinals, but the talk around Europe is the big win of Barcelona against Real Madrid after two overtimes (111-108). Real was considered the favorite to win the cup, but lost a thrilling game with veteran American Pete Mickael scoring 26 points for the winners and center Ante Tomic having a double double (20 p., 11 r.). The Catalans will play against Caja in the semifinals.
In Italy Roma prevailed 89-85 over Cantu and will face Varese in the semifinal, which had a very easy night against EA7 Armani Milano and got the 92-74 win with Mike Green scoring 23 points, dishing 10 assists and missing the triple double for two rebounds as he had 8.
Finally in Turkey Banvit for the qualification to the semis over Hacettepe (77-63) and will play against Galatasaray for a place in the final. Galata beat Anadolu Efes 72-64 with Jamont Gordon scoring 18 points.
