Maccabi Haifa led by Guy Mekel (21 p., 7 r.) and Pat Calathes (22 p., 10 r.) did the unthinkable in Israeli Loto league. The “Greens” beat Maccabi Tel Aviv in the knock out final and won the domestic title for the first time in their history. In order to understand what Haifa did, you must have in mind that Maccabi Tel Aviv has won 50 domestic championships and it’s just the fourth time in the last 20 years that the perennial champions lost the trophy.
