Spanish “Copa Del Rey” quarterfinals started with some important news and an upset. Zaragoza beat the Final eight host Unicaja Malaga on Thursday night (79-74) with Croatian forward Damjan Rudez being the top scorer with 16 points. At the first game of the tournament, Real Madrid got the expected easy win over Gran Canaria (83-60) and confirmed the title of the favorite. Real and Zaragoza will clash in the semifinals.
On Friday Laboral Kutxa will play in the quarterfinals against Valencia without injured guard Thomas Heurtel who was hurt in the last practice before the team’s travel to Malaga and he is expected to miss 10 to 15 days. Also Iberostar Tenerife Canarias replaced Blagota Sekulic by signing Greek center Lazaros Papadopoulos. However Papadopoulos will not have the right to participate in “Copa Del Rey” and will be unavailable in the quarterfinal against Barcelona.
