The rise of Dinamo Sassari to the upper class of Italian basketball teams was sealed on Sunday by conquering the Italian cup. The team of Meo Sacchetti who became the fourth former player that won the Italian cup as a coach after Cesare Rubini (Milano 1972), Petar Skansi (Treviso 1993) and Mike D’Antoni (Treviso 1995), beat Siena in the final (80-73).

It was the end of a five year winning streak in the cup finals for Siena which got 22 points by Erick Green. Caleb Green scored 18 points for Sassari, 15 of them in the first half, and Travis Diener added 17, getting also the MVP award of the final eight tournament.
