A great third quarter and a great Rudy Fernandez led Real Madrid to the semifinal of “Copa Del Rey” over Zaragoza with a 85-73 win. The partial score was 30-15 in the first ten minutes of the second haldf and Zaragoza couldn’t react.
Madrid was trailing by four in half (41-37), but Rudy exploded and finished the game with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, one steal and just one turnover. Reyes, Rodriguez, Llull and Carroll also scored in double digits. Henk Norel had 14 points and 7 rebounds for Zaragoza.
In the semifinal, Real will face Juventut Badalona which got the big win over the hosts of the tournament, Gran Canaria (73-67). Veteran guard Sergi Vidal with 21 points was the leading scorer of the winners in a game of runs, which in the end was decided on details and a 7-3 run by Juventut in the last two minutes.
