The President of the Italian Basketball Federation Giovanni Petrucci, after consultation with the federal council, declared that the Italian League season is canceled.

“Considering that from the Prime Ministerial Decree and from the Ordinances issued, so far, by the Government and the Regions, no certain dates emerge regarding the possibility of resuming sports activities in conditions of total safety, it cannot be thought that basketball competitions are held on the national territory, and in particular in the geographical areas most affected by the epidemic,” a part of the announcement stated.

Also taken into consideration have been the governments’ instructions on social distancing, departure of many athletes to their home countries, clubs’ current and future financial situation.

Apart from the season being canceled, it’s still not known in what manner it will be concluded regarding the standings, proclaiming the champion, relegation zone and the allocation of European tickets.
