A tough win, 74-72, for Segafredo Virtus Bologna over UnaHotels Reggio Emilia earned Sasha Djordjevic’s side a place in the Italian Super Cup Final Four. AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan and Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari were already in.
Virtus Bologna needed a win or a loss with a deficit under four points at the PalaRadi to win Group B of the preliminary round and qualify. Kyle Weems contributed to the clinching victory with 15 points and Vince Hunter added 11. Leonardo Candi landed a game-high 17 points in losing effort.
The Group C winner will complete the field for the Final Four. The next stage of the tournament will be held at the Virtus Arena between September 18 and 20.
In other Sunday action without Final Four implications, Luis Scola scored 27 points leading Openjobmetis Varese to the 102-100 win versus Germani Brescia and Lavoropiu Fortitudo Bologna beat Vanoli Cremona, 73-63.
