Olimpia Milano started off the Italian League semifinals the right way with a convincing 88-71 home win against Dinamo Sassari.
Shavon Shields was the top scorer of the winning side with 16 points while Luigi Datome scored 13 points. Ben Bentil and Sergio Rodriguez added ten points each with the latter also dishing out eight assists.
On the opposing team, Gerald Robinson scored 17 and Miro Bilan 16 points. Eimantas Bendzius helped out with 14.
After a highly efficient first quarter (32-26), Milano jumped to a 50-38 lead. Sassari actually managed to create a run that gave them the lead (51-50) but Milano answered instantly with a 21-4 run (71-55) of their own that basically decided the outcome.
Olimpia Milano took the lead to start the best-of-five series and will play Game 2 at home as well. In the other semifinal pairing, Virtus Bologna leads 1-0 against Tortona.
